Meet the Deacon

Deacon Steve Wulf, serving our Lord.

Hello and welcome to the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. I am Deacon Steve Wulf, the Permanent Deacon at the Basilica, assigned July 1, 2013. I welcome you to our website and invite you to visit our parish.

I retired from the Air Force in 1993 after 22 years of service and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate June 2nd, 2001, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Savannah Georgia. I am married to my wonderful wife, Linda, and we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on November 7th, 2021! We have three daughters and six grandchildren.

We moved to Pensacola in August 2002. Since moving here, I have had a variety of Diocesan and parish assignments. I say, jokingly, that God may not be sure what to do with me. In earnest, though, every assignment and task has enriched me spiritually and given me the chance to serve the people of God in various and diverse ways.

I have worked at the Diocesan Office of Christian Formation in Adult Education; taught middle school social studies and religion at one of our Catholic Elementary Schools; served as administrator of Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pensacola and worked as Director of Cemeteries for the Diocese for 10 years. During that time, I served as Permanent Deacon at three different Pensacola parishes at the request of the Bishop, St. Michael’s is the third parish and has become our spiritual home. I am truly blessed and honored to serve at the Basilica, the Mother Church of our Diocese.

I would be remiss in my introduction if I didn’t acknowledge the wonderful and sacrificial support my wife, my daughters and their families have given me over these many years. Linda has 20 years of experience as a Director of Religious Education at numerous parishes where we have lived, during our time in the military and after. She has been unwaveringly at my side accompanying, advising, and supporting, all of which I am totally grateful and appreciative.

Thank you for visiting our website. If you are visiting or passing through Pensacola, I do hope, along with Fr. Joe, that you will stop to say hello. If you are new to Pensacola and searching for your new spiritual home, I hope you will visit and consider becoming part of our family. We eagerly await the opportunity to journey with you as we grow in our relationship with God!
Blessings,

Deacon Steve Wulf
